Join us to watch ‘A Real Pain’, the first in a series of screenings from Cultures of Film in partnership with Cultures of Film at the University of Huddersfield.
A Real Pain (2024) is a comedy-drama written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg. It follows two American Jewish cousins — the reserved family man David (Eisenberg) and his free-spirited, unpredictable cousin Benji (Kieran Culkin) — as they travel through Poland on a Jewish heritage tour to honor their late grandmother and connect with their family’s past. During the trip they visit historic sites such as Warsaw, Lublin, and a Nazi concentration camp, and the journey forces them to confront long-buried tensions in their relationship, opening the door to reconciliation and deeper understanding. The film blends humor and emotion as it explores family, grief, identity, and connection.
