Sound artist Louise K Wilson presents two new tracks ‘Black Milk’ and ‘Thin Line’ at Holocaust Centre North.
Come along for a first to listen to the tracks and to ask Louise any questions about her work with our archive and community.
These two tracks are an addition to the Encountering Survival audio guide, created in 2022 with commissions by Linda O’Keeffe and Louise K Wilson. Encountering Survival explores what it means to document something that was lost, destroyed, stolen, left behind; and how to commemorate the immaterial things that defy archival practices.
Our audio guide gives space to what is loudest in its material absence: the scent of a grandparent’s home, tobacco, sweets and an old jacket; the long journey of a single, remaining family heirloom; those phrases which encapsulate a lifetime of mourning. Across 10 tracks, Linda O’Keeffe and Louise K Wilson mediate the histories of treasured objects, and the textures of loss, trauma and childhood memories. They have created an intimate record that bears witness to the act of remembering.
‘Black Milk’ and ‘Thin Line’ expand on these ideas by exploring the experience of the children of Holocaust survivors.
The presentation of work will be followed by Q&A’s.
If you would like to listen to the existing 10 tracks of Encountering Survival you can do so during your visit to Holocaust Centre North or online wherever you are.
