Join us at Sunny Bank Mills for a free ‘In Conversation’ event with Memorial Gestures curator, Paula Kolar, and Greg Thorpe, Head of Creative Programming at Holocaust Centre North.
Paula has led the first three years of Memorial Gestures, Holocaust Centre North’s unique artist residency. In this time, leading and emerging artists, writers, and translators have been invited to engage with the Holocaust Centre North Archive, reflecting on the ever-increasing importance of Holocaust commemoration through artistic and creative practice. The residency programme facilitates artists to ethically explore our archive and its relation to their creative practice whilst foregrounding critical practices and methodologies of responding to the Holocaust.
This conversation at Sunny Bank Mills will reflect on the exhibition works, artist development, and the nature of working with archives of trauma, loss, and survival, with a view to exploring contemporary responses to Holocaust History through art in the Memorial Gestures exhibition.
Tickets for this event are free but limited. Please book a ticket to register your attendance. Booking is not required to view the Memorial Gestures exhibition at Sunny Bank Mills. Event attendees are welcome to visit the exhibition prior to or following this event.
