In 1972 Ugandan dictator Idi Amin expelled all Asians from the country, forcing over 60,000 people to flee. Over 27,000 came to Britain to create a new life for themselves and their families.

This month at Holocaust Centre North we have the award-nominated Navrang Arts exhibition ‘Rebuilding Lives’ exploring the lives of those who fled to Yorkshire in the 50 years since they arrived.

On March 15th we will be joined by two of those who had to flee, Shamim and Yogesh, who will talk about their own experiences of displacement and becoming a refugee, as well as their lives in Yorkshire since. They will be joined by Jim Butler, the exhibition producer to explain the importance of sharing this story.
