‘The best play about the Holocaust that I have ever seen… accurate, moving, engaging and relevant’. Ruth-Anne Lenga, Centre for Holocaust Education, University College London.

Yizkor follows the experiences of two teenagers, Ariella and Moshe, between May 1939 and May 1944.

The script is based on witness testimonies from teenagers who experienced the Holocaust, so every word the audience hears is authentic and accurate. The play uses the voices of Ibi and Val Ginsburg, two of the survivors who feature in the ‘Through Our Eyes’ exhibition at Huddersfield University.

The play is set in a shtetl in eastern Europe and gives audiences an insight into a way of life, culture and religion that was wiped out by the Holocaust. It helps us to understand the human story behind the bare facts and figures and shows how ordinary people’s lives were affected by discrimination and racial hatred.

Each performance lasts about 50 minutes. There is a discussion with the cast and production team after each performance which lasts about an hour.  The Holocaust exhibition will be open until 6.30pm for guests who wish to see the exhibition before the performance.

Yizkor is suitable for and adults and children aged 10 and over.

Yizkor was developed with the support of the Imperial War Museum Fellowship in Holocaust Education. HSFA is delighted to partner with the New Vic Theatre to bring this important play to Huddersfield.
