Volunteer
Volunteering is a rewarding way to develop useful skills, meet new people and help us bring people together to connect and share our stories.
We have a variety of volunteering opportunities available for people of all ages and backgrounds who share our values. These range from public-facing roles, like greeting visitors at our reception desk or supporting our learning programme, to back-of-house opportunities such as creating digital content, translating survivors’ papers and researching archive material.
Please get in touch if you’re interested in volunteering with us. We welcome volunteers from all sections of the community. We ask all volunteers to complete an application form and have an informal chat with us first to ensure that we are a good fit for each other. Some volunteering roles require a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
I volunteer for the Holocaust Centre North because the Holocaust is an integral part of my Jewish identity. Although not a First or Second Generation survivor, I wanted to contribute towards explaining the risks of baseless hatred in society and educating the younger generations in how they should relate to others. In my retirement, it is how I can contribute towards building a better society – by preserving the legacy and continuing the work of the survivors. As well as giving me opportunities to apply my own knowledge and experience in discussing the Holocaust, Holocaust Centre North has given me the opportunity to further develop my learning. At the same time, in building its pool of volunteers, I have seen how welcoming Holocaust Centre North is to including volunteers recovering from mental illness and in giving them opportunities to structure and rebuild their lives.
